Hot Mess, But Make It Profitable: What I’m Learning About Building a Life When Your Brain Wants to Do Everything at Once

Some women wake up, drink their coffee, look at their neatly organized planner, and calmly begin working on the first item on their perfectly prioritized list.

I would love to meet one of these women.

Not for advice.

Just so I can study her. 😂

Because I wake up with approximately 47 ideas, three new business plans, something I suddenly need to reorganize in my house, a Facebook post I want to make, an Etsy product I want to create, a blog I should write, six tabs already open in my brain, and the completely unreasonable belief that I can probably accomplish all of it before lunch.

Same mess. Different day.

Except lately, something is different.

I’m learning how to make the mess productive.

I Have Never Had a Shortage of Ideas

Ideas have never been my problem.

Starting things hasn’t necessarily been my problem either.

My problem is that my brain doesn’t politely hand me one idea and say:

“Here, Amanda. Complete this before we move on.”

Absolutely fucking not.

My brain says:

“You should make a digital product.”

And while I’m making it:

“You should sell print-on-demand products.”

Okay.

“Have you considered dropshipping?”

Jesus Christ.

“WAIT. You need to make a Reel about this.”

Fine.

“You haven’t checked Pinterest.”

SHUT UP.

“Also, what are we having for dinner?”

😂

And when you have a brain that works like that, it’s incredibly easy to spend an entire day doing things without actually finishing anything.

That’s the part I’ve been trying to change.

Being Busy and Building Something Aren’t the Same Thing

This one hurt a little.

Because I can be busy as hell.

I can research.

Plan.

Design.

Write.

Learn.

Organize.

Watch tutorials.

Change fonts seventeen times.

Research something else.

Make another list.

And at the end of the day feel completely exhausted.

But then I have to ask myself:

What did I actually put into the world today?

Did I publish the blog?

Did I list the product?

Did I post the video?

Did I put the affiliate link in front of somebody?

Did I create something someone could actually buy?

Did I finish anything?

Because learning how to make money isn’t making money.

Planning to start a business isn’t building one.

And having a really fucking pretty Canva file sitting on my computer isn’t selling a product. 😂

At some point you have to hit publish.

I’m Done Waiting Until I Have Everything Figured Out

I think I’ve spent enough of my life believing I needed to become some future version of myself before I could do certain things.

More organized.

More disciplined.

More confident.

More successful.

Less scattered.

Less overwhelmed.

More… together.

And I’m starting to think that’s bullshit.

Maybe I don’t need to become a completely different person.

Maybe I need to learn how to build something with the person I already am.

The woman with too many ideas.

The woman who gets distracted.

The woman who gets excited and wants to do everything immediately.

The woman who sometimes absolutely kills it for six hours and then looks at the laundry like it personally betrayed her.

😂

That’s still me.

I’m just learning how to give all that energy somewhere useful to go.

One of These Motherfuckers Is Gonna Pay Me

That’s basically my current business philosophy. 😂

I’m creating digital products.

I’m building my Facebook.

I’m working on Pinterest.

I’m blogging again.

I’m learning affiliate marketing.

I’m learning print on demand.

I’m exploring dropshipping.

And yes, written out like that, it sounds mildly unhinged.

It probably is.

But there’s actually a strategy underneath the chaos.

I’m putting things into the world.

Then I’m watching.

What gets attention?

What gets clicks?

What gets saved?

What gets comments?

What gets purchased?

What does absolutely nothing?

Because I don’t need every idea to work.

That’s something I think people get wrong about trying to build something online.

We become emotionally attached to every damn thing we create.

If something flops, suddenly we’re questioning our entire future.

Maybe I’m terrible at this.

Maybe nobody wants what I’m making.

Maybe the market is too saturated.

Maybe I should quit.

Or…

Maybe that one thing just didn’t fucking work.

😂

Okay.

Next.

I’m Trying to Replace Perfection With Volume

Not shitty work.

That’s different.

I care about what I put my name on.

But I’m done believing everything needs to be a masterpiece before anyone sees it.

I’d rather create ten good things, put them in front of people, learn from what happens and make the next ten better than spend three months obsessing over one perfect thing nobody ever gets the opportunity to buy.

That’s the experiment I’m running on myself right now.

What happens if I actually execute on my ideas instead of constantly preparing to execute on them?

I don’t know yet.

That’s kind of the point.

I’m writing this from the middle of it.

And Maybe That’s What Getting Your Shit Together Actually Looks Like

I’ve spent years thinking “getting my shit together” would eventually lead to this magical point where everything became orderly.

My house would always be clean.

My schedule would make sense.

I’d know exactly what I was doing.

I’d never procrastinate.

I’d finish every task.

I’d make perfect financial decisions.

I’d wake up motivated.

Basically, I’d become some woman I have never actually met. 😂

Now I think getting your shit together might look a lot less impressive.

Sometimes it’s eating breakfast instead of forgetting.

Sometimes it’s making the phone call you’ve avoided.

Sometimes it’s creating the product.

Sometimes it’s saying no.

Sometimes it’s admitting something isn’t working.

Sometimes it’s trying again.

Sometimes it’s realizing you’ve spent three hours researching something and saying:

Amanda. Close the damn tabs and DO THE THING.

That’s growth too.

I’m Not Trying to Look Successful. I Want to Build Something Real.

There’s a difference.

I don’t want to create an internet version of myself who has all the answers.

She doesn’t exist.

I don’t want to stand at some imaginary finish line telling everybody else how easy the race was.

I’d rather show the middle.

The ideas that work.

The ones that flop spectacularly.

The days I’m productive.

The days my brain decides reorganizing a cabinet is suddenly a matter of national importance.

The money I make.

The mistakes I make.

The things I’m learning while I’m making them.

Because there are a lot of women sitting somewhere right now thinking they’re too scattered, too old, too late, too overwhelmed, too inexperienced, or too far behind to start building something for themselves.

And maybe somebody needs to see another woman doing it before she has everything figured out.

So That’s Where I’m At

Caffeine.

Sarcasm.

A ridiculous number of ideas.

A growing collection of digital products.

A laptop with entirely too many tabs open.

Some good decisions.

Several questionable ones.

And a determination to keep putting things into the world until I figure out what works.

I’m still a hot mess sometimes.

I’m just trying to make the hot mess profitable now. 😂💰

And maybe six months from now I’ll look back at this season and know exactly which decision changed everything.

Maybe it’ll be something I haven’t even thought of yet.

I don’t know.

But I’m finally realizing I don’t need to know how the entire story ends before I’m allowed to start writing the next damn chapter.

Same woman. Same chaotic brain.

Different direction.

And I’m really fucking curious to see where it goes.

Now tell me: What’s something you’ve been researching, planning, thinking about, or talking yourself out of that you know damn well you just need to START?

Because apparently we’re done waiting until we have our shit together around here. 😂💗
